Welcome to White Mill Veterinary Centre

With a history spanning more than 100 years, we are the only remaining independent mixed veterinary practice in East Kent. Our Equine Team provides a comprehensive range of services, with a commitment to tailoring care to the individual needs of every client and horse.

Our experienced and dedicated equine veterinary surgeons offer:

Emergency Care

  • Comprehensive 24-hour emergency cover, 365 days a year, provided exclusively by our own veterinary team

Routine and Preventative Healthcare

  • Vaccinations against influenza, tetanus, equine herpes virus and strangles
  • Equine dentistry using motorised equipment, with sedation where required
    • Referral for advanced cases to RCVS Specialist in Equine Veterinary Dentistry, Rob Pascoe BVSc DipAVDC FRCVS (Equine Dentistry Referrals)
  • Worming advice and targeted parasite control, including:
    • In-house faecal egg counts
    • Saliva testing for tapeworm
    • Blood testing for encysted redworm

Identification and Documentation

  • Microchipping and Passport Identity Documents

Medical Services

  • Colic management, including initial assessment, medical treatment, and referral for surgical or intensive hospital care when required
  • Lameness investigations, including:
    • Nerve and joint blocks
    • Mobile digital X-ray and ultrasound
    • Monthly lameness clinics with visiting RCVS and European Specialist in Equine Surgery, Tom Hughes BA VetMB CertES(Orth) DipECVS MRCVS
    • Close liaison with farriers regarding remedial trimming and shoeing
  • Ultrasonography and endoscopy for investigation of medical conditions, including:
    • Upper and lower respiratory tract disease
    • Gastroscopy (coming soon)
    • Urinary tract disorders
    • Referral for sinus surgery where appropriate

Reproductive and Foal Care

  • Reproductive services, including ultrasonography and preparation of mares for artificial insemination using fresh or chilled semen
  • Foal management, including plasma transfusions when indicated

Facilities

  • Dedicated indoor clinical area with stocks for clients wishing to bring horses to the practice for procedures or investigations

Additional Services

  • Wound management, including skin and pinch grafting when required
  • Castrations, typically performed at home under general anaesthesia
  • Standing enucleation
  • Management of sarcoids
  • Diagnosis and management of Equine Cushing's Disease (including a free initial blood test) and Equine Metabolic Syndrome
  • Ophthalmology, with referral to specialist practices when necessary
  • Pre-purchase examinations (two- or five-stage), with blood sampling and radiography available
  • In-house laboratory services, including blood testing, parasitology and dermatology, with access to a wide range of external laboratory tests
  • Export preparation and certification, including blood tests, swabs, liaison with transport companies and completion of all required documentation
  • Competitively priced medicines and prescriptions
  • Riding school inspections
